Find You a... HOBBY!

One of the best things you can do when you’ve got to get your mind off your problems is to do some sort of extracurricular. It’s distracting and it aids in the expulsion of unwanted emotions.

Get you a hobby!

You probably already have one. If you don’t, go get one! I am here to encourage you to A) Find something you absolutely love to do. B) Take no shit for it.

No matter what it is – unless of course you enjoy sewing jackets of human skin – you should absolutely have something that makes you feel good to do in your spare time. If it’s somewhat productive and you have something to show for it, it also helps to boost your esteem.

Slash some paint on a canvas. Coat your hand in graphite and chalk and colored pencil. Sing at karaoke. Write songs and jam in the garage. Pore over HGTV magazines and redecorate yours house. Learn a competitive or social game like Magic the Gathering or Dungeons and Dragons. Write poetry or short stories or fanfiction. Work on a car. Play a sport. Take up sewing or crocheting. Make pottery. Go fishing.

And if anyone tries to tell you it’s lame, punch them in the face. Especially if you took up boxing. Okay, so maybe don’t do that, unless you also took up running. Like, really, really fast. But do not let anyone tell you your interests are invalid. You are cool. You are glorious. You are awesome. And they are morons.

Now go, dear one, and lose yourself in creative passion.
