One Small Step Band Review

One Small Step? More like one big mistake! Or so their profile would have you believe. And I couldn’t disagree more.

With the raw energy of the pop punk gods that have come before them, they have taken their game to a new level. More polished than the legends of old, One Small Step’s style has more in common with the ethereal Panic! At The Disco than the raucous Sum 41. Talent blends with passion for these gifted rockers. Making the hearts of emo kids everywhere tremble, their aesthetic and sound are brilliantly punk.

In particular, their song The Decisions Made resonates in my constantly conflicted heart. It speaks of a sense of disorientation in life – feeling “tragically lost” and worrying that one’s dreams would be better off without them, because they’d only mess it up. But ultimately, “August has a way of forcing me to feel alright.” It pinpoints that feeling so many of us deal with daily, that we’re not okay but we’re still here. We’re not okay and that’s okay, so to speak. Heartrending in its portrayal of disassociation with one’s life, surviving but not thriving… It speaks volumes about today’s culture and on personal struggle.

Excellent lyricists and great performers, One Small Step is certainly making a name for themselves. Check them out on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and Pandora.
